School of Marine Sciences at Guangxi University won the first prize of Guangxi Higher Education (Undergraduate) Autonomous Region Level Teaching Achievement Awards

According to the “Notice the Education Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on the Announcement of the Results of the 2023 Guangxi Higher Education Region-level Teaching Achievement Assessment”, The project “Integration of Scientific Research and Education in Marine Science for the SCS and Island Coral Reefs: Constructing and Practising a Model for Cultivating Marine Science Research Talents” led by Professor Yu Kefu and other team members of our college won the first prize in the “undergraduate teaching achievement” group in 2023.

Based on that project first proposed in Sep 2014, a new study plan for Bachelor of Marine Science was explored and designed, which experienced 3 years (2014-2017) of exploration and more than 5 years (2017-2023) of practice, ultimately achieving remarkable results:

Supported the construction of the only world-class discipline in Guangxi

Supplied more than 500 research graduates in marine science field with a good professional background in coral reefs.

Established a unique marine science talent development model and base, serving China's major needs for the development and utilization of islands and reefs in the SCS.

In the future, we will further enhance the reform of education and teaching in depth and breadth, aiming to cultivate more high-quality professionals in marine science, to meet the needs of social and economic development, to support the national strategy of “seeking national prosperity and strength from the ocean”.
